At the beginning of this week, we focused on Beginning of the Year Universal Screeners. Students completed a reading comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency screener. We also reviewed the different Points of View (P.O.V.) using a poem.
Tomorrow, we will be starting off in the library. Book reports will be introduced, and students will have a chance to check-out a book to enjoy. Pre-AP will be challenged this year with 5 unique book reports. In addition, we will be playing a P.O.V. Kahoot!
Thursday is a day filled with Tone and Mood. Students will be introduced to the idea of tone and mood in a piece of writing. (Hint: Tone has to do with the author; while Mood is focused on the reader.) Pre-AP will even have a chance in groups to create a specific tone or mood based on their own writing. They will have to try to figure out what the tone and mood of other groups are using a gallery walk!
Starting off the day Friday, students will get the chance to show off their knowledge of Parts of Speech with a Mad Lib during warm-up. Extra juicy adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and verbs are expected to create a hilarious Mad Lib. Afterwards, we will be focusing on a real world issue, Hurricane Harvey. Students will be writing letters to students effected by Harvey and sending them. Students will not only get the chance to practice their writing, but they will have the opportunity to brighten someone's day.
We have a week full of review and new! Every day is another opportunity to learn, and Cougars excel at it!
Go Cougars!
